What we built
Northy Playroom is a small free arcade for adults in Canada: three casino-style games — a three-reel slot, a scratch card and a five-reel slot — that run in your browser and take only play coins. The coins arrive free, refill daily, reset on demand, and buy nothing. The name says it honestly: it's a playroom, with the north in the décor.
How it's drawn
Everything is illustrated in one style — bold comic outlines with halftone shading — but each game keeps its own world: 1980s neon arcade for Gridrunner Reels, a prairie farm at golden hour for Harvest Scratch, runes and ice for Runes of the North. One art direction, three moods, and no two tiles you could mix up.
The promises
- The odds are the odds. Every game plays exactly by its published paytable. We don't script near-misses, warm up "cold" machines or nudge results in either direction. Randomness comes from your browser's cryptographic generator.
- Nothing is for sale. No coin shop, no upgrades, no memberships, no ads for casinos. If your balance dies, the reset button revives it for free.
- Your data stays yours. No accounts, no tracking cookies. The coin balance lives in your browser's storage and never reaches a server. Details in the privacy policy.
- We say what this is. A social casino for entertainment — not gambling, not licensed by any regulator, and not a training ground for the real thing. The responsible play page spells it out.
Why free, really
Because the fun parts of these games — the clatter of reels, the foil under a thumbnail, the one-more-spin itch — work fine without money, and arguably better. Stakes turn a toy into a stressor. We wanted the toy.
